I was fired at 33, 3 months after buying a condo. These were in the days when you had to show up in person at the unemployment office. Mine was in DC, where I felt humiliated to be among all the blue collar wage workers, me a reporter with a graduate degree.
I was fired at 47, a few months after buying a new car.
I was laid off at age 61, a few months after buying another new car.
It took me more than a year to find another tech job, meanwhile temping and collecting unemployment. If a 61 year old in a tech-adjacent field can get another job, I know you can!!!
The good news is now that I'm retired, I can safely buy a new car. Not that I'm planning on it.
