When I was still working, I was unceremoniously laid off more than once. The last time was from a tiny startup, which led to the last job I had before retiring last year. It was a great place to work, my salary took a big bump, but ultimately after three years, including the pandemic, I decided it was time to stop and smell the roses, which for me is doing lots of art and writing, and taking up a new sport.
My old boss was laid off abruptly after I retired. I heard about it through the grapevine. He was my champion and if this had happened while I was still there, it would have flipped me out. He was the UX Director and had been with the company for 7+ years.
