What a Time to Make a Tone-Deaf Commercial

The state of the world has gotten so bad that I’ve been cordoning myself off from the unending litany of disaster news: atmospheric rivers, Noah-level floods, streams of tornadoes — and that’s just the climate-change related stuff. Add to that the ongoing threats to democracy in the US, the rise of authoritarianism, the stripping of women’s rights, book banning, corporate price gouging, gerrymandering — it’s enough to make me want to pull the covers over my head and cry.

But then along comes Xfinity with its tone-deaf TV commercial where a (cynically chosen?) Black boy waxes on and on about 10G and streaming video games. “What a time to be alive,” he sighs.

Sure, kid. It’s like the Age of Enlightenment. Only with a dying planet and rising Fascism.

Go to hell, Xfinity.
