There's no profit in building and selling indestructible anything, especially computers. Knock on wood, my MBP circa 2010 still boots up and runs old Adobe software that you actually owned, which is why I hang on to it. My Air is 5 years old and I had to replace the battery, which required a tech. In the old days of Mac, I could swap in memory and change the battery. The MBP, in contrast, can't be opened because the screws were stripped at the factory.
I also have owned 2 Android tablets and a Motorola phone, which do what I need for way less than an iPad, though I am sometimes tempted. Then I lie down and rest.
