As a child, I relished seeing Mom haul out the flour and yeast. I knew that in a matter of hours, the aroma of baking bread would fill the house. Sometimes Mom made a special treat for me, sprinkling cinnamon on leftover dough.

My friends talked about my Mom’s cooking years after eating her bread, ravioli, potato pancakes, and pies.
