The housing crisis in this country has truly depressed me. I am about to retire. I've saved many multipliers more than most people my age to live on in retirement, and will have a decent Social Security check and modest monthly pension from being a state work for 8 years a while back. My needs seem so modest: a walkable community, nearby quality medical professionals, a second bedroom or a den for a small art studio. And within an hour's drive of my two closest friends of literally decades. Yet I despair of finding housing I can afford in any such place I've been exploring. And now, large foreign corporations are buying up SFHs in nice small cities to rent out at exorbitant prices. I don't want to keep working full time, I want to enjoy retirement while I am still reasonably healthy. I despair.
