The first summer in my new (current) job, I erred in thinking that my tendency to speak in a forthright manner and present solutions with confidence was a plus. It wasn't.

Other women especially seemed to think I was "overconfident" and "bossy."

We've gotten past that, but I had to learn a different way to speak, and my coworkers had to adjust their perceptions of how women should present themselves.
