thank you!!! So many of these articles waxing eloquent about the need for human contact sound as if these folks have no friends outside of the office. I for one have zero interest in making the workplace my social outlet. After 40 years in various workplaces, I know that it is rare to make a genuine friend who will still be in your life once you leave. I can count on less than one hand the coworkers who became lifelong friends. Many had good intentions, we kept in touch for a while, but then that delicate thread connecting us frayed as our lives went in different directions. Perhaps it's my age, but I have minimal interest in happy hours, forced birthday celebrations (of course no more blowing out candles!!!), or more than a very occasional lunch off campus.
