Spot on. I shifted from journalism to graphic design and then web and UX design because I wanted more tools by which to communicate messages (solve problems). This is what I get the most satisfaction from as a UX designer.
At home, I take off the professional creative cap and put on the artist cap. It’s a much better balance for me than my days of being a graphic designer who became extremely annoyed when clients didn’t appreciate the artistry of my designs. Not to imply I don’t get frustrated with clients and stakeholders now, but the disagreements are about how to design something to provide the best experience for the user and meet business requirements.
