Recovering from foot surgery years ago, I made the first appointment of the day with the podiatrist. I arranged for a neighbor to drive me there. I was routinely not seen until 45 minutes after my appointment. The reason? The doctor schmoozing with a rep, visible and audible to me. Apparently, the scheduler didn't inform the doctor that he was to start seeing patients at 8:30, not 9. After the third time of this happening, I wrote a letter and told them I shouldn't have to pay a co-pay since they were wasting my time. I noted that I had the first appointment of the day and that the doctor was clearly not having an emergency, he was chatting up a sales rep. I got a letter back totally ignoring what I'd written, and giving me the standard "emergent patients" etc etc. I stopped going to that doctor and should I ever need such services I will go elsewhere.
