Places like that are out of reach financially for me, as housing AND rental prices have skyrocketed.

Our condo, in a gated community, was purchased with an eye on the future. Safety. Retirement. One story, first floor, and compact. Considerations for the older selves to come. No stairs to climb. Walkable to a grocery, medical clinic, and bank. In a familiar part of town, centrally located with easy access to freeways, restaurants, and movie theaters. A bus stop close by if driving becomes challenging.
