No, it's intentional.

I'm old enough to have owned several Macs back in the late 90s and early aughts that I could install my own RAM and change the battery. Then my Macbook Pro, circa 2009, the screws were stripped at the factory, making it difficult and expensive to try to put in an SSD to update the OS. I'd have to pay someone to TRY to get the back off and hope. It wasn't worth the expense and I happened to score a Macbookk Air on sale.
