My Mom was too busy working as a waitress to "fight for the right to work outside the home." Dad was a steelworker. They needed both incomes to buy a home in the burbs in 1960, when I was 3. My Mom worked outside the home from the time she got married, in 1948, until she retired when I was in college. And then she actually went back to waitressing because she was bored.
So I grew up with the idea that I'd be working. Along with my older sister. Our parents hoped we'd get "desk jobs".
