I've owned Macs for my entire adult life. I used to be able to replace the battery, even put in RAM. Now? I have to take my Mac somewhere to replace the battery. The IT department no longer can just order a new battery and I can swing by and have it put in. No, they have to take my laptop, send it off to the Apple Store, and provide me a loaner. They have to figure out what apps I need loaded so I can do my work, and I have to back all my files up to the "cloud" so I can continue working. What an improvement! (Not)
I have come to dread upgrading the OS. Again, in the old days, it was easy. Now, every new Apple OS seems to come with big issues, like WIFI or Bluetooth issues, etc. that it's gotten to the point that I just keep using the OS my laptop came with until nothing works with it anymore and then buy a new Mac. (OK I exaggerate. A bit. Our IT department had us hold off on upgrading to Big Sur for months because of an issue with compatibility with their remote security software that could lead to our Macs bricking. Hey, no biggie, so we couldn't actually work!) I feel like I need to make offerings to the gods before updating my OS, plus study up for 2 days to get all the steps down.
