Interesting. In my own experience, when I transitioned from a “gallery” style design portfolio to one with case studies is when I heard very positive feedback from the places where I interviewed. In fact, it was a detailed case study of a product design exercise that sealed the deal on the job I’m starting next week.

This isn’t to say your advice is wrong. It’s really to emphasize that the whole job hunt, from application to resumé to portfolio, is frankly a crapshoot, because of the wide variability in what any potential hiring manager or HR recruiter is looking for or despises in candidate materials.
