I'm a senior living alone, and have the privilege of a job where we have all been WFH since last March. Eliminating the time and aggravation of a daily commute has greatly improved my life satisfaction. I was already accustomed to living alone, so that helped me to avoid feelings of isolation, though I did miss going to an occasional movie and browsing the library stacks. I coped by being more intentional in reaching out to friends via video and phone calls. Now that we are being pressured to go back to the office at least 3 days a week in the fall, I am dreading how that commute will affect my daily quality of life. It will definitely be a push factor to retire. Losing 6-8 hours a week commuting is not my idea of positive quality of life. Commuting in to have remote meetings with developers, from a meeting room, vs from my own home, is a ridiculous imposition and deleterious to the environment, to boot.
