I'd say it's using mystery gestures. You get no manual, so it took me years to accidentally "discover" if I used 3 fingers held in a certain way and pinched them for a nanosecond while the moon was in the second house and Jupiter aligned with Mars… my point being, Apple has a dozen gestures to accomplish things but no way for someone to discover them.
