I was not in the in-crowd in high school, though I was lucky to find a small group of other "goody two shoes" bookworm smart kids like myself. I was on various sports teams but the in-group girl jock version of mean girls did not like it when I wore a t-shirt with the slogan "I gotta be me" on it.

It offended their idea that I should want to be like them. That I should want to brag about having gotten so drunk on a Saturday night that they had no idea what happened to them.
