I too am not a fan of dark mode. I have old eyes, too! Thought it was just me. What I miss from the old days is being able to have inline images, aligned left of right. This allowed for images that were editorial in nature, not just pretty pictures. Trying to show a UX flow and having to create an unnecessarily wide image to fill the whole column is frustrating.
