I started turning on subtitles for two reasons: watching a lot more British TV where the accents can make comprehension harder, and because my budget HDTV has lousy speakers. I am one of those people who don't want to watch a foreign film and have to try to read and watch the action at the same time. I only see out of one eye, so maybe it's harder for me. If I'm going to read, I prefer a book. 😉
