I spent 6 months as a UX designer in two enterprise-level software companies. I nodded in recognition at the frustration of not really getting to understand the lives of end users in context. Healthcare UX is an extreme example of the disconnect between who pays for a technology platform and who actually uses it. I’ve seen too many decisions made based on budget and sales pitches, not on understanding the needs of the actual end users, with UX then being asked to try to play whack-a-mole to improve an off the shelf app at the edges.
