I had made plans with a decades-long friend to do a road trip together to scout out retirement locations, which was to happen in May 2020. It didn't. Still no go in 2021.

This year, still a no go because her husband is A. immunocompromised and extremely risk-averse and B. not ready to retire.

But: and here's what your story reminded me of: I did go on a much more circumscribed road trip with another long-time friend this summer, and we had a great time; the fact that she was up for the adventure and that we were able to go made me appreciate it much more than I would have in 2020.
