I find that self-checkout is rarely "fast" if there are 6 people in line with a few items each, because A. It's not set up physically for speed, and B. Most people are not trained as cashiers. Plus, I want to help preserve jobs. Unless they start giving me a 1% discount for becoming my own cashier, I generally steer clear.
