I enjoyed this story, Robin.
I've taken up "visible mending", a trend popularized on Instagram. I've embroidered repairs on jeans, jackets, and sweatshirts. I never sewed at all, although my sister did make a lot of her own clothes. My Mom knew how to sew and had a Singer.
I got into sewing about 15 years ago (!) when I took a workshop at Penland, Embroidered Maps, I think it was called. I don't make clothes, but I do do a lot of non-traditional embroidery and kantha-sashiko type sewing. Anyone who is interested can see my stuff on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/chrishasmeinstitches/
