I consider cat people to be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. How else to explain telling others how wonderful it is that their cat jumps on their face in the wee hours of the morning? That would happen once and they'd be meeting their maker.

Unfortunately two of three of my longest friendship friends own cats. My brother adopted two strays decades ago; they finally died but every surface and textile in their house is embedded with dander. I'm allergic, with the symptom a feeling of sand under my eyelids.
