Here's a big issue in the U.S. The majority of Social Security recipients depend on SSI for the bulk of their income. Many folks, myself included, can't easily afford to continue living in the city they've spent their adult worklife in, due to housing costs. Moving to an affordable location often means severing ties to decades-long friendships and other social support networks; this is especially so for single adult renters. If we truly cared about seniors, we would figure out a mechanism to help subsidize the cost of housing to enable retirees to age in place.
