Frankly, there's no good reason from a user perspective, to prevent us from responding to stories in the mobile browser, vs their app. Instead of increasing engagement, it stifles it. I refuse to have 50 apps on my phone when I can use the browser. I don't need a NY Times app or a Washington Post app to comment on articles on my phone. So now, I just don't read Medium on my phone because I'm prevented from commenting. Not sure how that serves their bean counters.
Aside: For god sake, all companies everywhere: stop trying to shove your app down my throat. Enough!
