Another practice that leads to biased hiring is to give the most weight to candidates being a "good fit" with the rest of the staff. For example, design firms with a staff of designers who are in their 20s and 30s, and who are given final say on hiring. Guess what happens when a candidate in their 50s or 60s applies? "Not a good fit", even if all the stated qualifications and skills are met. The same thing would happen for candidates of color.
